If you’ve ever had an organic acids test done and have felt very lost in terms of how to interpret the results, I’m here to help. You may have ordered this test for yourself and have no insight in to what it all means or you would like more information than what the practitioner who ordered it for you has provided. I previously only offered this interpretation service to my own clients, but after seeing a need, I decided to offer this service to anyone who needs it.
What is an organic acids test?
The organic acids test is a urine test that measures different types of acids that are byproducts of metabolism. By measuring them in the urine, we have a non-invasive way of assessing different metabolic functions or physiological states.
These include such things as:
- Krebs cycle function (which influences the production of energy)
- bacterial overgrowth or dysbiosis
- yeast overgrowth
- neurotransmitter production and conversion
- detoxification ability
- nutrition status
While the test isn’t perfect, it gives a great real-time view of the state of health including genetic expression. Genetic tests such as 23andme don’t give a real time view of how the genes are being expressed.
Why order an organic acids test?
The organic acids test is an excellent choice for anyone dealing with chronic, unresolved health issues that conventional medicine has trouble diagnosing and treating.
Such conditions or symptoms include:
- chronic fatigue (including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and M.E.)
- depression
- anxiety
- insomnia
- Fibromyalgia
- headaches
- IBS
Wherever possible, the organic acids test should always be used in conjunction with other testing. This includes standard pathology testing, PCR stool tests and also with other health appraisal methods such as questionnaires, health history, family history and physical exams.
My own story of organic acids testing
After years of not getting any answers as to why I had debilitating anxiety and fatigue, an osteopath here in Sydney ordered an organic acids test for me. It was genuinely life changing and almost spooky in how accurately it matched not only the symptom picture but it also matched other pathology testing (standard and stool tests) and clinical diagnoses I had received. Having those results come up so accurately has meant that I am a firm believer in the clinical utility of organic acids testing.
Get in touch – I’m here to help review your Organic Acids test result
I can interpret organic acids testing for anyone who has already had the testing done or for new and existing clients. Please note that I cannot order testing if you are not a client of mine.
While I can provide an insight in to what the results mean and offer general suggestions, you will need to take any general suggestions to your existing healthcare practitioner for discussion. Or you can work with me as a client if you need treatment supervision.
I routinely review both Genova and Great Plains organic acids testing. Each test review is $AU80. I can also provide interpretation for other testing such as Genova GI Effects test, uBiome or GI Map testing for the same price.
